Marwah Yaseen is an environmental scientist whose research sits at the meeting point of hydrology, climate science, and decision-making. She completed her Ph.D. at the Department of Civil, Environmental, Land, Building Engineering and Chemistry (DICATECh) of the Politecnico di Bari, Italy, and serves as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Health at Salahaddin University-Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Her doctoral work analyzed the water-energy-food-ecosystem (WEFE) nexus by coupling agro-hydrological modeling (SWAT) with participatory System Dynamics modelling, turning stakeholder knowledge and physical simulation into a single decision-support picture for agricultural basins such as the Tarquinia plain in Central Italy.
Alongside the nexus work, she studies how well global and regional climate models reproduce observed climate, from precipitation biases over Southern Italy and Portugal to new visual diagnostics of model performance, and applies machine learning to daily streamflow prediction in Mediterranean catchments.
STATION 02 · FOUR TRIBUTARIES, ONE RIVER
Agro-hydrological simulation with SWAT and machine-learning streamflow prediction with LightGBM & Random Forest, including SHAP-based interpretation of what actually drives daily discharge in Mediterranean basins.
Participatory System Dynamics modelling coupled with hydrology to capture feedbacks between water, energy, food and ecosystems, evaluating best management practices and nature-based solutions with stakeholders, not just for them.
How trustworthy are our climate models? Systematic assessment of GCM and RCM precipitation biases (CMIP3/5/6, EURO-CORDEX) over Southern Italy and Portugal, and co-development of a new performance diagram for complex models.
Foundations in water pollution and quality assessment, from heavy-metal ecotoxicology in aquaculture to resource-management strategies that keep water safe for people and ecosystems alike.
VENTURE · CO-FOUNDER
Where the science leaves the lab. Marwah is co-founder of Arasense, a venture that turns environmental data (water, climate, and the models that read them) into intelligence people and organisations can act on.
